Anyone else had to plan a family party? I’ve been quite lucky in that up until moving home last year, I’ve never had to do this all by myself. It’s something I have always wondered if I’d be any good at.
Well I finally got a chance to find that out when my family decided my place was perfect for a little get together. So I got my party planner head on and starting by writing myself a list in advance of what I would need to buy. I did this three days before I would be going shopping, so I could plan out exactly in my head how I was going to do all of this.
Three days later, and the day before our get together, I headed to the local supermarket, without my list. I had left it on the table in the house when I left that morning. Luckily I had planned everything out in my head so I still had an idea of everything I needed.
Two hours later and I was back home with my food haul. I checked my list and I had succeeded in getting everything I needed. Packing everything away I decided to write myself a checklist of all the preparations for the next day, to ensure everything went smoothly. I got in an early night for me and set my alarm for the next morning.
The day of preparations had arrived. I had snoozed my alarm, so ended up getting up an hour later than planned but I didn’t feel stressed at all. That is amazing for me.
Five hours later, I’d been on my feet for that long, everything was ready and I had just enough time to get changed and sit down for a cup of coffee. Phew!
And a good party isn’t just about the food. Drinks for older and younger generations were provided and the entertainment; a good playlist of popular music videos hits the spot for both an older and younger audience. Along with my nieces favourite game of ‘What am I?’ Which gave us all a good laugh.

I surprised myself with how easily the planning and preparation came. I think I hit the jackpot with my parents, as we couldn’t really afford outside catering at our birthday parties growing up, I have three sisters, so you can imagine the expense of all those birthdays, so my mum would do all the catering whilst having four kids under her feet. My dad was working so my mum really did all the party prep. I realised how amazing my mum actually was and you bet I messaged her that night and thanked her for being so awesome.
So that’s another skill I can put under my belt for future use. Its amazing what I’m discovering about myself.
Much love and light to you 💜
